Job Description:
The Director of Obstetrics at is responsible for coordinating activities in obstetric care to maintain continuity of care consistent with departmental standards and objectives on a brand new OB unit.
The Director coordinates and provides direction to the personnel in daily activities required to achieve departmental objectives. Develops, monitors, reviews and changes when necessary the policies and procedures required to assure safe, economical and efficient quality care.
Interviews, recommends hiring, orients, counsels, evaluates and if necessary,recommends termination of subordinate personnel. Develops staff through ongoing training programs.
Adheres to departmental guidelines related to employee performance and operating standards. Assists with development and administers departments’ annual budget.
Monitors expenses to stay within budget. Communicates with various departments to coordinate efforts, resolve operational problems and improve quality care of patients.
Oversees proper use, repair and replacement of nursing equipment. Oversees the ordering of supplies and equipment as necessary. Participates in the collection or recovery of lost charges.
Develops and implements continuous quality improvement, quality management and safety systems for patient care and employees. Submits monthly statistical data as assigned.
Serves on committees and attends meetings to enhance and maintain an awareness of current Nursing techniques and procedures. Provides professional Nursing care to patients in response to workload and/or staffing shortages.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
BSN required. Master's degree in nursing preferred. Certification in Nursing preferred.
Minimum Experience:
3-5 years of previous director-level experience in an OB setting required.
Demonstrate knowledge of Nursing in this specialty area.
Ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively towards defined patient care outcomes.
Minimum skills/abilities:
Strong communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage expense budget as allocated.
Ability to make formal presentations relative to clinical, operational, educational research and financial issues.
Certification/Licensure:
Current license to practice Nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Training:
Training in Performance Improvement, total Quality Management, and/or Continuous Quality Improvement.
