JOB DESCRIPTION
OB/GYN Practice Staff Nurse
Job Responsibility
§ Collaborates with physicians and/or nurse midwives to determine the needs of the patient.
§ May a ssume responsibility as call nurse for obstetrics and gynecology as assigned; uses effective communication skills and interpersona! l skills in obtaining inf ormation from patient and in receivi! ng and handling patient- related phone calls.
§ Maintains patient confidentiality at all times, without exception.
§ Renders direct patient care and instruct patients and their family members in care as instructed by the physician
§ Assists with health education on the patient’s level of understanding.
§ Makes lab and x-ray appointments and explains the preparation to the patient.
§ May be responsible for notifying patients of lab results.
§ Assist in keeping elec tronic medical records in accordance with office procedures.
1. Demonstrates knowledge of company office policy and procedures.
§ Uses correct procedures and techniques in providing patient care to obstetric and gynecological patients of all ages and bac kgrounds.
§ Uses appropriate reference material such as Policy Manual, Procedures Manual, PDR, etc.
§ Demonstrates knowledge of the use of equipment needed for rendering direct patient care.
§ Demon! strates knowledge of infection control standards.
§ Fo llows established precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Previous demonstrated nursing experience in OB/GYN
- Medical Assistants must have graduated from a certified training program.
- LPNs and RNs must be g raduate s of a NLN accredited school of nursing AND have a current MA nursing license that is free of restrictions.
- Ability to assist with the transportation, transfer, and ambulation of patients.
- Lifting without assistance up to 25 lbs.
- Abili! ty to respond to patient emergencies.
- Able to stand without in! terruption for extended periods of time
- Reaching (extending arms and/or trunk of body above or in front of body) for patient care or retrieval of supplies.
- Capable of working under stress related to multiple patients and/or providers care demands occurring.
