Within the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatrys
Fatherhood Project, the mission of which encourages fathers to develop
healt! hy, nurturing and respectful relationships with their children, the
incumbent will be responsible for program development both within Mass General
Hospital and in collaboration with the Director, outside the hospital. The
professional in this position will help to expand services offered by The
Fatherhood Project (TFP) to fathers who receive or are involved with medical
care in MGH Pediatrics, Adult Medicine, Child Psychiatry and Ob/Gyn. The
project will be directed at an underserved population ie, fathers. The
Projects support and psycho-educational work will be developed by the Program
Director in conjunction with the Director. Close collaboration with with
social workers, nurses and physicians within MGH and beyond is part of
successful delivery of services

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing Fatherhood programs t! o select fathers of the MGH community in conjunction with exis! ting medical services at MGH with oversite from the Director.
  • Educate current medical providers about the need to refer fathers for support and psycho-educational services
  • With the Director, develop and conduct psycho-educational programs for fathers with different needs and children of different developmental levels
  • Assist the Director through discussion and program evaluation in efforts to teach incarcerated dads improved fathering skills and the critical importance of father involvement
  • Develop, in conjunction with the Director, program evaluation measures to improve services on a regular basis
  • Maintain a high profile and collegial relationships within the targeted MGH services
  • Consult regularly with the TFP Director about development and implementation of services
  • Develop school-based TFP programs for schools, parent groups and dads to foster father engagement
  • With the Director and development consu! ltant, develop a fund raising presentation for potential funders
  • Present at professional conferences and fund raising events about services and programs offered by TFP
  • Work collaboratively within a team of four within TFP
  • Work as a member of the team to develop social media potential for TFP to increase marketing of services
  • Pursue the establishment of a fellowship in fatherhood studies
  • Educate MGH clinicians about the delivery of psychotherapy services to fathers
  • Work with the Director in the development of program priorities and short and long-term objectives
  • Maintain and develop professional collaborations with others in the fatherhood field (outside TFP), particularly in Boston
  • Increase visibility of the program through the development of video presentations
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of ! child development
  • Knowledge of the tasks of fatherhood for son! s and daughters
  • Knowledge of the literature on fatherhood
  • Knowledge of the academic literature on empathy, mothering, recommended approaches to relating to children at different development stages
  • Knowledge of and skills with videography services
  • Ability to understand large, complex medically-oriented organizations during times of transition and stress
  • Understanding of school priorities and interests
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):

License to provide clinical services at the Masters level preferred.

EDUCATION:
Masters Degree in the mental health or education field required.

EXPERIENCE:
At least 10-12 years in the area of Fatherhood program development,
implementation and execution required.

Videography skills and DVD production an advantage.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBIL! ITY :
With the Director, the Program Director will supervise the Academic and
Administrative Assistant

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

With the Director, the Program Director will oversee the TFP budget.
