Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and the clinical resource RN, the Senior Medical Assistant is responsible for the continuous, efficient, smooth patient flow for the OB/GYN clinic. Responding to the constant changes within the clinic setting, monitoring work flow, and assisting in all areas of patient care, including assisting all providers in clinic rooms. Manage patient check out, room stocking, ordering supplies, directing patient throughput, and maximizing room utilization. Patient liaison for information regarding wait times, providing updates to patients in waiting rooms. Schedules all MA assignments. Maintains ancillary testing log; reconciles lab book weekly to ensure all follow up and that outstanding orders are resolved and scheduled.

Responsibilities:
Coordinates a group of assigned Medical Assistants wor! kflows within the General OB/GYN Clinic.

Controls and! monitors patient flow to maximize efficient use of providers and exam rooms. Responds to variations in patient volume, provider ability, and resources (e.g. early arrivals, no shows, providers who are absent, etc.) by making continual adjustments in room utilization and assignment.

Monitors patients in waiting area and updates about visit status and wait times.

Provides back up coverage for patient check out for all services offered within the clinic setting

Collects demographic and insurance information. Completes necessary registration forms; inputs registration data per eCW and Hospital Protocols

Prepares medical record in eCW according to clinic protocols

Answers telephone calls and screens for appropriate handling. Takes accurate and timely messages. Schedules patient appointments according to clinic protocols Enters lab and ancillary test into soarian through RCO per hospital protocol.

Reviews the patient medical ! record and conducts pre-visit interview with patient. Uses this information, along with clinic protocols, to anticipate what actions and tests may be needed during the visit. Gives instructions on specimen collection to patients. Where appropriate, and as governed by OB/GYN protocols, performs collection of specimens and/or ensures the necessary supplies and equipment are ready for the provider to use during the visit. Takes and records all vital signs, records chief complaint, and assesses need for referrals and prescription renewals and documents in eCW per protocol.

Prepares exam room for each patient, maintaining standard of the practice for stocking and cleanliness.

Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for provider visit.

Assists patients in meeting their personal hygiene needs and in other ways as needed.

Must be familiar with procedures in ensuring patient and personal safety. May sit with a patient who needs monitorin! g. Provides safe, comfortable, clean environment for patients and famil! ies. Uses proper techniques and procedures for hazardous waste disposal, universal precautions and for body mechanics.

Requirements:
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to work independently and accurately with excellent follow-through.

Basic to moderate computer skills: including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, e-mail and automated scheduling software, and the ability to navigate through hospital-based computer systems.

Ability to read, write and spell in English to ensure accurate message taking.

Knowledge of business math, ability to make calculations, and analytical skills required.

Good interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and ability to use universal precautions and knowledge of patient handling required.

Ability to complete and pass competency exams in waived test list for practice.
Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.

Ability to stand and walk 80% of the workday.

Level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of an Associates Degree or equivalent.

Medical Assistant certification with one to two years of medical experience preferred.
