Within Service Delivery Division, East West Zone, we have a range of positions available, some as outlined below:
Zone Operations & Coordination (ZOC)
As a member of the ZOC, you will build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and Defence personnel with a shared focus on performing complex procedural, operational, administrative, and business support work. You must identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders needs and expectations to achieve outcomes for the Assistant Secretary, East & West Zone.
Our Zone encompasses more than 30 Defence Bases across three jurisdictions, where we manage the estate, environment, planning, and sustainability outcomes. The purpose of the ZOC team is to enable bases to deliver zone-wide customer outcomes by providing centralised business, coordination and Work Health and Safety services.
This position is part of a geographically dispersed team whose main functions and activities are:
- Communications – Coordination of Executive, Zone and Ministerial/Parliamentary submissions and briefs
- Workforce Planning – Coordination of establishment maintenance and recruitment administration
- Service Delivery Tasking – Coordination of responses to tasks and activities requiring stakeholder input
- Supporting Zone Executive – Providing coordinated assistance and process guidance to Executive and staff
- Secretariat Duties – Support of the Executive Assistant (EA) to the Assistant Secretary
Base Management
Our Bases vary significantly dependent on the Services that they support. As a Base Management team member, you will build strong relationships with various military, civilian and contractor stakeholders with a shared focus on the sustainable management of the Base to support operational, training and other specialist functions. You could work in and around weapon ranges, airfields, wharves, laboratories, heritage buildings and contemporary corporate offices.
Your role is not purely operational, and you will have the opportunity to influence Defence strategic planning, program and policy development. Its an exciting role and environment where no two days are the same, but on a typical day as a member of a Base Management team, you will:
- Engage with Defence stakeholders and assist with their operational enquires
- Work closely with industry partners focusing on Defence projects and estate outcomes
- Ensuring base security, WHS, and emergency management procedures comply with relevant standards
- Participate in providing input into operational support of base activities
- Contribute to the estate, environment and sustainability planning and program management
- You will also have the chance to be part of the response to the community in times of crisis
Your role is responsible for the supervision and coaching of an AOA Team. You will review and monitor the performance and quality of output to ensure the team successfully and effectively contribute to email, phone and face to face customer enquiries along with physical service offerings.
You will be responsible for administering, planning and overseeing daily operations and will work collaboratively with other AOA teams to support the delivery and development of our services. No day is the same, however on a typical day you may:
- Engage with Defence personnel and APS staff and assist with general enquiries
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders
- Manage and oversee the daily responsibilities of your team to ensure consistent and high quality service delivery
- Provide coaching and development opportunities to your team.
- Ensure your team consistently display Defence Values and Behaviours
- Contribute to the continual improvements and strategic direction of Service Delivery
About our Team
The East & West Zone (EWZ) is a branch of the Service Delivery Division within the Department of Defence Security and Estate Group (SEG). EWZ provides essential, on-the-ground services and support to Defence personnel at locations across New South Wales (excluding the Riverina), Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.
Base Management Teams are responsible for effectively securing, managing and maintaining Defence Bases across Australia. This work is a critical business enabler of Defence capabilities, prioritising base resources and ensuring service delivery standards across the Defence estate. You will be part of a proactive and dynamic team that is trusted and proven, contributing to a positive service delivery culture.
