Position:
Purpose of role:
- Provide comprehensive project management and general management support across a range of mechanical and electrical engineering projects.
- Work with the Engineering Manager and Business Development team to grow the business and maximise all opportunities for work in the sector/region.
- Support with the smooth running of the business unit, in conjunction with the Engineering Manager and Project and Resource Scheduler.
Main responsibilities:
- Effective management of engineering projects associated with the installation, relocation and decommissioning of machinery, on behalf of customers.
- Effective planning, control and monitoring, both internally and directly with the customers, of projects secured from the quotation stage, through negotiation to contract completion and final accounts.
- Deputise for Engineering Manager in the absence of Engineering Manager or Senior Project Manager
- Produce quotes and undertake estimating for engineering projects using the Company’s standard commercial approach.
- Motivate and effectively lead project teams to ensure successful delivery of projects, with a clear focus on identifying and resolving any problems that occur.
- Effective liaison throughout the sales and order securing process and during contract works with other Beck and Pollitzer colleagues on a national and international level Achievement of high profit levels through effective contract management, cost tracking, forecasting and financial control, ensuring efficient utilisation of labour resources at all skill levels and disciplines, sub-contractors, equipment and plant suppliers.
- Reporting on contract performance regularly and to Beck and Pollitzer standard requirements, ensuring all potential opportunities, variations, risks and progress are identified and reported to the Engineering Manager on a weekly basis.
- Ensure projects comply with Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and other Company systems and procedures
- Maintain technical competence, service knowledge, local industry knowledge as well as regulatory issues, which affect customers.
- Provide quality service to Beck and Pollitzer’s internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, while upholding Beck & Pollitzer’s Values at all times.
- Negotiate and agree contract costs with customers, for the provision of services, monitoring compliance, managing variations and acting professionally at all times.
- Support Beck & Pollitzer’s centralised resource allocation and procurement strategy at all times
- Participate in training meetings, customer site visits, company events and/or trade shows and exhibitions as required.
- Produce presentations and reports as required.
- Assist in redefining, improving and ensuring all on-site contract controls, labour management and engineering standards are met.
Requirements:
Essential
- Experience of managing engineering projects particularly with regard to the relocation and installations of machinery
- Educated to an advanced technical level in a relevant engineering discipline, (e.g. Engineer ).
- Experience of using Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and industry recognised project management tools for tracking, analysis, business documents, presentations etc.
- Experience managing a project team, organising, and motivating internal labour resources and sub-contractors.
- Experience of applying health and safety legislation including risk management processes
- Experience of ensuring good cost and budgetary controls, accounting controls and procedures through to final accounts
- Experience of negotiating and agreeing contract costs and variations with customers.
- Evidence of project management training
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical or Electrical contracting.
- Understanding of engineering principles and engineering drawings
- Understanding of lean methodology/processes.
