Location: Cambridge Massachusetts

Description: Cambridge Health Alliance is at present looking to employ DIR, ADDICTIONS CONSULTATION PROGRA right now, this occupation will be placed in Massachusetts. Provides addiction psychiatry consultation, training, leadership, and guidance for CHA inpatient medical, outpatient primary care, and other assigned clinical specialty settings. Works autonomously and provides clinical and administrative supervision to staff.

1. Manages the development, oversight and review of the Addictions Consultation Program.

2. Provides administrative supervision and oversight for staff within the Addictions Consultation Program.

3. Provides input into performance appraisals, hiring, recognition, and decisions to terminate employment.

4. General duties include providing and/or arranging consultation, comprehensive assessment, and treatment recommendations for clinical management of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Chronic Non Cancer Pain (CNCP) through the Step Model of Care.

a. Case-based consultations half time: 10 hours/week

b. Education and trainingseminars, didactic presentations, case conferences; to include staff and trainees in all disciplines half time: 10 hours/week

5. Within the inpatient medical services, in collaboration with the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service, provides:

a. case consultation for assessment, treatment, and discharge planning recommendations

b. training in the management of alcohol and opioid dependence disorders, motivational interviewing skills, pain and addiction through bedside teaching, case conferences, and seminars.

6. Within the outpatient Primary Care services, provides interface between Primary Care and Psychiatry with consultation for screening, assessment and managing patients with medical and co-occurring addiction and psychiatric disorders. Initial focus will be at the below health centers:

a. East Cambridge Health Center

b. Windsor Street Clinic

7. Provides multidisciplinary case consultations through open consultation and training forums.

8. Develops, implements and evaluates tools and resources for both initial and ongoing education and training.

9. Develops and oversees core team of available consultants representing Primary Care, Psychiatry, Pharmacy, Neurology, Physiatry, OB/GYN, and Oncology.

10. Plans staff training and development. Develops and oversees training presentations in addictions counseling following the standards of the Department of Psychiatry Training Council.

11. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures around addictions treatment protocols.

12. Participates in the Addiction Leadership Team of the Department of Psychiatry.

13. May be responsible for beeper coverage and clinical back-up unless otherwise delegated.

14. Maintains effective multidisciplinary relationship with chiefs of service, CHA administrators, department managers, and public and private agencies.

15. May represent the Department of Psychiatry and/or CHA in hospital and/or community based activities.

16. Works directly with other professionals using a multi-disciplinary treatment team approach. Demonstrates capacity to work collaboratively in a team setting, with the ability to listen to others, participate actively, and take appropriate responsibilities.

17. Participate the development of quality improvement, quality management, and performance improvement initiatives.

18. Maintains all licensure and certification requirements.

19. Participates in teaching and training activities, including continuing education activities needed to maintain yearly licensing requirements.

20. Provides clinical supervision and teaching in addictions and dual diagnosis treatment to staff and trainees in the Cambridge Health Alliance.

21. Maintains awareness of and commitment to the protection of client rights and confidentiality.

22. May participate in the design and implementation of patient education and psycho-education programs for clients, families, and others.

23. Performs other duties as assigned by Medical Director of Addictions.
