GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Reports directly to the BWPO OB! /GYN Senior Billing Manager. Supervises the activities of the OB/GYN Billing office of one billing coordinator and six patient account representatives primarily engaged in the follow up of outstanding patient invoices, appeal of inappropriately denied services, response to patient inquiries (both written and verbal) regarding their bills, as well as analysis driven at reducing denials and increasing revenue.

In conjunction with the Senior Billing Manager, the Billing Operations Supervisor creates an effective accounts receivable team which emphasizes effective cost and operationally efficient processes regarding patient accounts receivable management together with a sharp focus on customer service and satisfaction.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises the activities of the Billing Coordinator and the Patient Accounts Representative staff. Monitors the progress against mutually agreed upon goals and objectives established by the S! enior Billing Manager.

2. Oversees the daily activiti! es of the team which includes follow up of outstanding accounts within established guidelines, process of appeals for incorrect denials, systems postings, audit mail processing.

3. Responsible for high level ad hoc reporting as required by the Billing Manager and BWPO Administrative, Finance and Faculty.

4. Ensures all claims edit lists are assigned, researched and processed.

5. Ensures all claims (electronic and paper) have been produced and received by the carrier according to agreed upon production schedules.

6. Handles all patient complaints with assistance from the Senior Billing Manager when necessary, that are beyond the scope of a Patient Accounts Representative.

7. Assists the Senior Billing Manager in the design of work assignments, including PCS and TES work files.

8. Super-user for Patient Keeper and IDX PCS Workfiles.

9. Reviews denial reports to analyze cause and trends by major third parties.

10. Provides training and updates to new employees and existing staff on all policies and procedures related to the department.

11. Responsible for hiring new employees.

12. Responsible for completing annual performance reviews on all employees

13. Work with the Senior Billing Manager in counseling and disciplining employees.

14. Ensure that customer service lines are adequately staffed at all times.

15. Represent the department at meetings.

16. Assists in projects and other duties assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervises the daily activities of the OB/GYN Billing office of one Billing Coordinator and six Patient Account Representatives.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
BWPO OB/GYN has roughly $70 million in charges and $40 million in revenue annually.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ yrs billing experie! nce
  • Thorough knowledge of Physician Third Party Billing and Co! llection.
  • IDX and PCS knowledge required
  • Thorough knowledge of Third Party Reimbursements.
  • Excellent communication skills
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels.
  • Strong PC skills (spreadsheet)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with managers and employees of all levels through strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and apply critical thinking in order to make decisions and resolve problems.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels of the Hospital

WORKING CONDITIONS:
All work is performed at the main! business office at 111 Cypress Street.
