IDEAL CANDIDATE for the CHIEF NURSING OFFICER
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License :
Possession of a valid RN license either issued by the State of Massachusetts, or in process is highly preferred.
A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Thorough knowledge of:
- Current principles and! practices of nursing that optimize patient care.
- Principles of nursing administration and organization.
- Patient care standards mandated by regulatory agencies.
- Acute care hospital policies, procedures and routines.
- Laws and regulations governing hospital operations, nursing practices, administering and accounting for medication, consents for treatment and related matters, such as Title 22 of the General Acute Care Hospital Regulations, The Joint Commission, and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Union experience required
- The use of standard computer-based business applications.
- General financial principles and procedures pertaining to budget development, monitoring and justification.
- Plan, organize, develop and direct nursing and related services for a large acute care hospital.
- Manage and supervise the work of othe! rs, directly and through subordinate managers.
- Appraise perfor! mance, counsel and train employees, directly and through subordinate supervisors; develop and implement disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Direct the development and implementation of effective policies and procedures.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing and related services and make necessary improvements.
- Understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations and policies related to nursing and hospital administration.
- Collect, interpret and evaluate narrative and statistical data pertaining to administrative, fiscal management and clinical nursing matters.
- Prepare complex reports, memoranda and other written materials.
- Analyze and resolve complex problems related to nursing service management.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; present findings, recommendations and policies before boards, commissions and/or committees.
- Provide excellent public relations and! courteous customer service.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including physicians, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, contractors and other health care industry personnel.
- Work as a Staff Nurse in at least one nursing unit, if needed.
