Position Summary : Prepares patient for examination and explains the! procedures of the examination to the patient. Scans patients, reorganizes the desired information pattern and photographically records information. Differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological process and recognizes electronic limitations of machinery. Performs intensive studies in the area of obstetrics, neurology and general abdomen. Determines various measurements, structures, identifications and movements of particular organs. Participates in the review and interpretation of various daily scans with radiologists. Relays exam results and explains procedures to physicians or nursing staff. Consults with radiologist concerning unusual cases. Maintains monthly count and chart of all scans performed. Ensures that area is tidy and adequate supplies are available. Keeps abreast of new techniques and procedures in the field of diagnostic ultrasound by attending seminars and symposiums. Takes call as needed; schedules will be shared evenly with all ultrasound technologi! sts. Performs all necessary functions to provide efficient pat! ient care including clerical and transport duties.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Satisfactory completion of a formal Ultrasound training program or equivalent training as specified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
Minimum Experience: Requires 1-3 years experience to develop sufficient knowledge of equipment and procedures.
Minimum skills/abilities: Collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians and other health care workers. Must be able to satisfactorily explain examinations to patients.
Certification/Licensure: BLS certification either upon hire or within a 90 day period is required. ARDMS registered or registry eligible with completion within one year of hire date. Registry area should be appropriate to the scope of practice.
