AVP, Patient Safety Operations

Job Summary/Purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer in the Patient Safety department, this role is responsible for developing CRICOÂ's patient safety strategy, vision and mission along with offering prioritization of all patient safety initiatives. Under executive direction, provides strategic planning and innovative solutions for CRICOÂ's patient safety and risk mitigations functions that will enhance its informational assets and lead to aiding our shareholders to make it the safest place to receive and deliver care in the world. This role encompasses using CRICOÂ's unique collaborative and iterative process for developing patient safety and risk interventions and to implement these initiatives with its stakeholders. This approa! ch will be the basis of which this role functions to provide s! upport to all CRICO Board initiatives by supporting the Chief Medical Officer and our institutional patient safety, risk management colleagues and front line providers. This position also requires close working partnership with the Advanced Data Analytics and Coding team and Patient Safety Organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
Develop strong partnerships to create a team with Assistant Vice President of Advanced Data Analytics and Coding and Assistant Vice President of Patient Safety Organization to provide consultative and clinical domain expertise.

Provides leadership to the Patient Safety Consultants and Program Management staff including oversight, planning and implementation of strategic and operational patient safety initiatives to the Harvard medical institutions.

Responsible for fostering close collaboration with claims and underwriting to ensure an integrated approach to the delivery of customer service, including the managem! ent of various premium incentive and discount programs and claims services to our shareholders.

Responsible for working with the Chief Medical Officer in developing and implementing the risk management and patient safety educational strategy across the CRICO-insured entities to include maintenance of our accredited continuing medical education status.

Responsible for the development/maintenance of enduring educational content including, but not limited to: on line continuing medical education courses, clinical guidelines in breast, colorectal and prostate cancer screening as well as Obstetrics practice guidelines.

Provides evidence to the Operations Committee of the CRICO Board to support the return on investment for continuing to support high visibility programs supported by grants.

Minimum Requirements ( Knowledge: education, experience, and specialized skills )

BS/BA and advanced degree required; MBA/MPH or other related masters level degree desirable; MD a plus

10+ years related experience in a health care/patient safety setting such as a hospital or large physician group or risk management and insurance industry experience related to health care

5+ years demonstrated management experience successfully leading and managing a team of skilled professionals

Knowledgeable in areas of patient safety and health care

Ability to work in a fast paced, complex work environment and set priorities to achieve results.

Well-balanced thoughtful leader who has genui! ne interest in developing new and innovative approaches to mitigating malpractice risk, medical errors and improving health care quality

Excellent communications skills to work successfully with all individuals at all levels - inside and outside of CRICO

Demonstrated ability to exercise leadership and influence strategic direction of organization
